Dirt Road Adventures: A Week At Kure Beach & Wilmington, NC

Happy Sunday, and welcome to Dirt Road Adventures: A Week At Kure Beach & Wilmington, NC! This is where we review all the exciting events behind the scenes, on the website, and the sources of inspiration I discovered online during the past week. This weekly recap ensures you don’t miss any of our adventures.

Hey friends! I hope you had a good week. We have been at the beach all week. Brad was finishing up the work on a neighbor’s cottage, and I did a little shopping.

We had a little excitement going on at Kure Beach. The pier area was filled with film trucks, and the beach was set up to film a movie. I understand that the movie is called Merv and is a romantic comedy about a dog and its owners. Zooey Deschanel stars, and apparently, she and her ex take their dog on vacation to cheer him up. The beach was filled with flags and obstacle courses for dogs. I didn’t see any stars, but it’s always exciting to watch regardless.

Adventures at the End of the Dirt Road

This is a look back at all my adventures this past week.

Hollywood East: Wilmington, NC

Did you know that Wilmington, NC, has been nicknamed Hollywood East? As of 2020 there were 138 movies filmed and 162 TV shows filmed in Wilmington. Since 2021, the industry has grown, with movie studios expanding.

We’ve loved watching movies and cable series filmed in Wilmington, Kure Beach, and other local areas. Many of our favorite restaurants and other landmarks are easily recognized in the films. I look forward to seeing Merv and seeing the Kure Beach pier on film. If you’d like more information about the movie industry in Wilmington, check out this article.

Movie set up at Kure Beach, NC for the movie Merv

In addition to the movie excitement, we spent some time in Wilmington. We had lunch at The Half, which has quickly become one of our favorite sandwich stops. It’s a tiny restaurant located in the Brooklyn Historic Art District of Wilmington, NC, in a renovated historical building. The tiny restaurant is always packed, so come early if possible.

We’ve determined that they call it The Half because you can only eat half of your sandwich. So come hungry or plan to take half home with you.

Next, we did a little thrift store shopping and found some treasures at Ivy Cottage. I brought home this great basket and ceramic planter. I quickly found a spot for them in the beach cottage. See how I styled them at the end of this article.

Why Didn’t I Think of That?

There are so many wonderful blog posts each week, and I’m sharing some of my favorites with you today.

There are so many creative ideas, and I’m always asking myself, “Why didn’t I think of that”? LOL

I want to congratulate my sweet friend Stacy Ling. I’ve been sharing her new gardening book and this past week, she had a guest appearance on Kelly and Mark. She did such a great job, and I am so proud of her success. If you’ve not picked up her book, it’s on sale for a limited time. To see details, click the book image below.

My friend, Jen, at Midwest Life and Style, was the winner of the American Farmhouse Style Table Tales Contest. Her Peach-themed table was part of our Supper Club series last summer. You can see more of her table at Peach Perfection: Stunning Summer Tablescape.

Kure Beach Cottage

I recently added several new items to the beach cottage and thought I’d share some of the links. I quickly added my latest finds and love how they look in this space. Below the image, see all the links to items in the beach cottage or similar items. Just click on each item’s name.
