How To Make Inexpensive Valentine’s Day Party Favors

I recently finished making a Primitive Valentine’s Heart Door Hanger with Dollar Tree supplies. While cleaning up the leftover supplies, I decided I couldn’t let them go to waste. Therefore, I added a couple more items and created these adorable Valentine’s Day party favors. For just pennies each, these guest gifts can be filled with candy or other trinkets that your friends will treasure. Even if you don’t plan a party, you may need a little something for a friend, teacher, or just want to show someone you’re thinking of them. These are easy to make and so inexpensive. Let’s take a look at the supplies I used.

Seed Pot Place Card Holder Tutorial

The first idea was to create place card holders using Dollar Tree seed pots, shredded tissue paper, and small wood hearts. The seed pots can be filled with candy and other trinkets for guest gifts or party favors.

I made three different designs, and there are many other options. Here are the three options I made.

  • Paint the seed pots with craft paint. I used white paint.
  • Add polka dots to the pots. I used the same white craft paint and the closed end of the sharpie to create the dots.
  • Leave the pot natural and add jute twine with a heart.

In addition, I added the small wood hearts to the pots with hot glue. I also made little heart tags by attaching a toothpick to the back of wood hearts with hot glue. Then, I used a sharpie pen to write names or messages on the hearts.

Vintage Tin Hearts Plant Stakes

Another idea was to use the larger wood hearts and add the pressed tin wall tile to create vintage-inspired plant stakes or floral picks.

To begin, trace the hearts on the backside of the wall tile. I had scraps left over from my previous project, which was perfect as it only takes a small amount.

  1. Cut the tile hearts slightly smaller than your wood hearts to allow the color to show around the edges.
  2. Attach the bamboo skewers to the back of the hearts with hot glue.
  3. Paint the tin hearts white (or color of your choice) and allow them to dry.
  4. Then, attach the tin heart to the front of the heart with hot glue.
  5. Finally, add a small amount of dark wax or gold Rub N Buff to the heart to give it an aged appearance. Buff off any excess.

How To Make Candy Pockets With Dollar Tree Doilies

Another idea was using Dollar Tree heart-shaped doilies. There are two options for making the candy pockets.

  • Roll the doilies into a cone and secure them with hot glue or tape.
  • Create a pocket by attaching the bottom edges of the heart with hot glue.

I tied a ribbon around the cones and created a ribbon handle for the pocket design. In addition, I added one of the wood hearts toothpicks to personalize each pocket.

Insider Tip

I recommend using several of the heart doilies instead of a single ply. I found them to be very fragile and once you fill the pockets with candy, they are hard to hold steady. However, use 4-5 layers for each side to add stability.

How To Display Valentine’s Day Party Favors

If you plan a meal for your Valentine’s Day Party, adding the seed pot party favors or the doily candy pockets to the place setting is a creative way to displace your guest gifts.

You can use the hearts to personalize the party favor with the guest’s name or a sweet message. Below, you can see the three different seed pot options.

The heart doilies are also lovely displayed on the dining table place setting. Fill them with candy, shredded tissue paper, and a personalized heart to greet each guest as they arrive at your beautiful table setting.

There are many ways to display your plant stakes for your guests. First, add the stakes to a small live plant or herb as a Valentine’s Day party favor. You can fill inexpensive bud vases with flowers and add one of the heart stakes or create a centerpiece with the hearts.

Group Party Favors For Guests to Choose

Another idea for a casual gathering is to group the Valentine’s Day party favors and allow guests to choose as they mingle. All your guests will be excited to take their sweet gifts home at the end of the party.
