10 Best Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
I’ve learned over the years that Mother’s Day brings out a sentimental side; therefore, these ideas will definitely warm a Mother’s heart.
A Photo Book
In a world where all of our photo’s are on a cell phone or stored away in boxes, creating a photo book would be amazing.
This could be a book filled with the obvious grandchildren or children.
However, don’t limit yourself; it could be filled with memories of previous Mothers’ days or time spent with loved ones that are no longer with us.
There are so many options for creating a unique memory book with treasured images.
You can write your memories or special messages next to each image. What a unique way to show you’ve spent time creating something special for mom.
As a result, this is possibly my number one favorite Mother’s Day Gift Idea.
They have great templates, and creating your unique gift is easy.
There are several online options for creating a photo book. I used Shutterfly for my daughter’s wedding and was happy with the results.
Inspirational Books or Diaries
I love a great diary or notebook for storing my ideas. I like to keep notes about entertaining, guest lists, menus, etc., in a special notebook. In addition, I store ideas away for future parties or projects.
Plus, I love having a daily journal for reading snippets of inspiration that feed my soul and keep me focused.
Here are a few book ideas you might consider as a gift.
- Mom’s One Line A Day A Five Year Memory Book Diary
- One Line A Day – Blank Journal for Daily Reflections
- One Thousand Gifts – A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are
- Good Catastrophe – Unlock The Force Of Hope In Life’s Hardest Fights
- A Gift From the Sea – I read this one at least once a year and always take away something different each season of my life.
There are so many wonderful books that would warm a mother’s heart, and the list is endless.

Candles for Mother’s Day
One thing I can’t have enough of is candles in my home.
From tapered candles to pillars and everything in between, I constantly need to replace candles, so you can never have too many. Therefore, candles are a perfect gift choice.
In addition, I love tapered candles for my tablescapes when entertaining.
Here are a few of my favorite buys.
- Ivory is always a good choice, and these are great quality.
- White and dripless.
- Beeswax in beautiful colors
Finally, I suggest battery-operated flicker candles for safety throughout the remainder of the home. I use these when arranging vignettes with candlelight. Due to safety issues, I rarely use real candles on my coffee tables or side tables.
These look like and feel like real candles.
I recently started buying these tapered battery-operated candles, and I love them.
Handcrafted DIY Projects
What mother doesn’t love a gift made by her child or one that embraces that sentimental feeling?
I shared this Scrap Fabric Pillow last year and had such a positive response to the Mother’s Day Gift suggestions.
You can use baby clothing, sports uniforms, etc., to create a memory pillow.
Let your imagination soar with your fabric choices and design. You can find more about how to make this pillow here.
There are many different DIY or craft projects that you can make as a gift. In addition, many options are safe for smaller children to help with.
I made this angel ornament for Christmas, but this technique would also work well for a Mother’s Day Gift.
Please take a look at the Angel Ornament Tutorial here. The designs are easy for the little ones to paint and personalize.
Make your mom a DIY Topiary. I love topiaries for Spring and Summer decorating.
This easy tutorial can be made in a few hours and is a gift that’s sure to please. You can make it large or small, depending on your preference.
Another fun idea is to make a DIY Decoupage Box or make personalized coasters with decoupage.
I created my design on a napkin; however, copies of photos and other paper materials can also be used to cover a commemorative box or personalized coasters.
See the full decorative box tutorial here and how to make coasters as gift ideas here.
Plants and Flowers
I know—the obvious gift of flowers, right? But with a twist. My mom loved to plant annuals. We’d go to the garden nursery and pick out her favorites. As she got older, we’d plant them together. It was something she wanted and appreciated so much.
Also, consider a plant or flowering plant that will come back year after year. Hydrangea’s Peonies, Lilacs, and Daylilies would all be good choices.
You can also consider a gardening book or a gorgeous flower coffee table book.

Gift Certificates
Although some might say a gift certificate isn’t personal enough, I’m afraid I have to disagree.
Here are some gift certificate ideas that will make your gift certificate special.
- A gift certificate for a favorite restaurant with the whole family or just you and your mom.
- Mothers with small children might love a babysitting certificate for personal time or a date night.
- A spa day gift certificate for two, you and your mom.
- Let’s go shopping certificate at a favorite store (together). My daughter and I like to shop together for each other’s gifts. It’s a great excursion with lunch included. Plus, we almost always get exactly what we want. LOL
The Best Gift Idea – Time Together
Planning time together outside of the obligatory Mother’s Day might be the best gift of all.
My daughter and I have a tradition of spending a few days together at the coast yearly to celebrate Mother’s Day and her birthday.
It’s the only vacation time that it’s just the two of us, and we do exactly what we love.
Sit on the beach and read!
Go to dinner at our favorite restaurants.
Spending the evenings on the porch with each other.
