Patriotic Picnic Ideas & How to Decorate
Here are some Patriotic Picnic Ideas for a Rainy Day which include how to decorate your porch or indoor space!
Don’t you just love a picnic?
When the best-laid plans get interrupted by a rainy day, you can still create a fun atmosphere by having your picnic on your porch.
When I was packing up, the sky opened and suddenly everything was drenched. To not be outdone, I brought the picnic inside onto the porch.
It’s actually nice to listen to the rain while enjoying a glass of wine and a snack.

What are some ways to decorate for a patriotic picnic?
First, it’s all about the colors!
As you pack up your basket, be sure to include any red, white or blue tea towels or napkins.
In addition, add quilts, blankets and pillows that include the patriotic colors.

Ideas for Patriotic Florals
Don’t you just love having flowers in your basket?
Adding either real or faux florals in red or white is a great way to give the picnic a fun patriotic feel.
There’s always room for the white blooms and a flag in our vintage basket.

Blankets and Quilts with a Patriotic Vibe
For today’s impromptu porch picnic, I used this blue and white quilt on the coffee table.
You may remember seeing the quilt on this pool dinner table from last summer.
To give the quilt a more patriotic feel, I just turned it to the other side.

In addition, add some throw pillow to make the seating more comfortable and this flag pillow is a perfect choice.

Any additional pillows or throw blankets that are any combination of red, white or blue will work perfectly for this picnic idea.

What should you pack in your picnic basket?
This will depend on if your picnic is a meal or snack.
Today’s basket is filled with wine and snacks and since it’s on the porch, all the necessary supplies are within walking distance.
However, you do need to remember few more supplies if your location is a distance away.
So here are some things to always pack in addition to your food and beverage.
- Bottled Water
- Napkins and/or wet wipes
- Cork Screw
- Plates
- Cutlery
- Trash Bags
- Bug Spray

What are some more Decor Picnic Ideas for a Patriotic porch?
Since the party moved to the porch, I couldn’t resist adding more florals to add to the red, white and blue theme.
This old ice cream churn is filled with red tulips and adds to the festive feel on the coffee table. The ice creme churn was a trash day find and I shared how to add florals to the trash to treasure piece here.

Another picnic idea is to use the vintage basket as part of the decor.
You can see how I placed the basket on the sofa filled with a flag and the white flowers.

In addition, the basket serves as storage for the food until needed. The coffee table is small and doesn’t allow for all the food to be served at once.

Planning a picnic makes any occasion seem special. I hope you enjoyed these Patriotic Picnic Ideas and that you’ll be inspired to plan your own this summer.
