Supper Club

Each month our virtual Supper Club group rotates who is responsible for the main course, appetizer, cocktails, desserts, side dishes, etc.

This month I am responsible for the appetizer and I know you will love this delicious recipe.

In addition, each month we have one guest host to share a side dish. This month our guest host is Brendt from She Gave It A Go.

If you are joining me from Simply 2 Moms, welcome. Did you just love their Southern Sweet Tea Cocktail idea?

Party Ideas

In case you have missed some of our previous menus, I thought I’d share a link here to the last few months.

For this months Tea Party Theme, I set a vintage inspired table with thrifted dishes, tea pots and tea cups.

It was such a fun theme and reminded me of how much fun I had holding pretend tea parties as a child.

Food Ideas for a Tea Party

First up today is my appetizer.

Today I’m sharing an easy, Spicy Cheese Wafer recipe.

It’s easy to make ahead of time and is perfect for any occasion but especially great for a tea party.

Easy Appetizer Recipe to make ahead of time.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Additional Time 2 hours
Total Time 2 hours 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. grated extra sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper
  • 1/2 cup softened butter

Instructions

  1. Mix together all dry ingredients in mixing bowl.
  2. Add grated cheese and softened butter and blend until throughly mixed
  3. Roll out onto wax paper, starting to form a log.
  4. Wrap the wax paper around the log and roll until roll into a log approx. 1 1/2 - 2 inches in diameter
  5. Keep cheese log wrapped in wax paper and refrigerate until firm (approx. 2 hours)
  6. Preheat Oven 400 degrees
  7. Slice cheese roll into 1/4-1/2 inches pieces
  8. Place parchment paper on large baking sheet
  9. Place slices cheese approx. 1 inch apart on parchment paper
  10. Bake for 10-14 minutes or until firm
  11. Remove to cooling rack
  12. Store in airtight container until ready to serve.

Notes

You can substitute finely chopped jalapeño peppers for the cayenne pepper if desired. Just be sure to drain all liquid from the peppers prior to adding.

If you prefer cheese straws, follow the above recipe but instead of rolling into a log, use an icing tube or plastic bag and squeeze the cheese mixture out into straws onto the parchment paper.
