Easy To Make Fall Dollar Tree DIY Table Runner With Burlap Leaves

If you are looking for a creative Fall table runner, wait until you see this Dollar Tree DIY Burlap Leaves project. It is easy to make in less than 30 minutes, with little crafting skills needed. I originally made a Dollar Tree Leaf Wreath, but I overestimated how many leaves I would need, so I decided to make a Dollar Tree Table Runner with the leftovers.

I had a linen table runner from a Thrifting with the Gals adventure, and it was the perfect base for the Falling Leaves Table Runner.

How To Make A DIY Dollar Tree Table Runner for Fall

First, you need to gather your supplies. I had four packages of natural burlap leaves left over from the original project and a 12 x 50 thrifted linen table runner.

Optional Drop Cloth Runner: No Sew

This project would also work well with a drop-cloth table runner. Here is a no-sew method for making the base for your falling-leaf table runner.

  1. Cut the drop cloth fabric to the size you need for your table length. Most are approximately 12-14 inches wide. Allow 3/4 inch on all sides to fold under the raw edges.
  2. Use a hot iron to press under the 3/4 inch raw seam on all sides of the drop cloth.
  3. Add some fabric fusion along the turned under edges to secure the seam.
  4. You may need to add some straight pins to hold in place until the fusion dries.

How To Add Burlap Leaves to Table Runner

Begin by removing the wire stem from the Dollar Tree burlap leaves. They are easy to pull off.

Begin on the back side of the leaf and apply fabric fusion to the edges of the leaf.

Insider Tip: Optional Method

I considered attaching the leaves with a hot glue gun. However, I wanted to wash the runner if it gets soiled; using permanent fabric glue is best. The permanent glue will also be more flexible. Another option is to sew the leaves onto the fabric table runner. You can attach it with a sewing machine or by hand stitching.

Add fabric fusion to burlap leaves

Begin by attaching the first leaf to the table runner at the lower edge of the fabric. Secure the leaf with straight pins until the glue has dried.

Add Falling Leaves

Next, add three burlap leaves at the bottom edge of the runner. Apply the fabric fusion to the area of the burlap leaves that will connect to the table runner. Pin in place with the straight pins.

Then, add a second row with two leaves, dropping from the original three. Apply glue to the areas the leaves will join and pin them in place.

Finally, add single rows of leaves dropping from each other. I used four single leaves to complete the DIY Dollar Tree Table Runner.

Don’t Make This Mistake

I initially didn’t use pins to secure the leaves in place. Instead, I used paint containers to add weight to the leaves. This worked, but when I applied the leaves to the other end of the runner, I found adding the straight pins much easier and more efficient.
