Dollar Tree Easter Craft Idea

First, this may be the easiest and cutest craft project yet! Y’all know that I save most of my used tin cans, and they always seem to come in handy. This is no exception.

I found these adorable wood-cut-out bunnies with a fun white cotton tail at Dollar Tree and instantly grabbed a package for $1.25. Wasn’t exactly sure what I’d do with them, but home with me, they came. Then inspiration hit, and I started looking for a tuna can. And here’s what I did.

Upcycled Tin Can DIY Pillar Candle Holder

I decided to make a DIY pillar candle holder out of a recycled 10 oz. tin can and surround it with Dollar Tree bunnies.

The first step would be to paint the tin can. I used gold leaf spray paint to cover the can inside and out. I had the paint on hand, and it worked perfectly. However, I could have used black, brown, or off-white for a similar result.

How To Paint The Dollar Tree Bunnies

Next, the Dollar Tree Bunnies needed painting. Since they have their cute bunny tails attached, it will be necessary to paint them with a brush. Instead of paint, I decided to use gold leaf Rub N Buff.

Total aside! I’m in love with Rub N Buff! Have you used it? It is just the best for almost any project and is so easy to use. I have it in all shades of gold, and if you go back to my last year’s DIY projects, you will see I use it a lot. So be sure to get yourself some; you will not regret it. Okay! Back to the bunnies.

To cover the bunnies with Rub N Buff, I added a small amount to a folded paper towel and rubbed it over the wooden bunny to cover most of its front and back sides. Then, I used a small brush to work around the bunny tail to avoid getting the wax on the fuzz.

How To Attach The Bunnies To The Tin Can

This is so easy! All you need to do is add hot glue to the bottom half of the bunny’s back sides. Press the bunny onto the upcycled tin can and hold for a few seconds. Ensure the bottom of the wood bunny is even with the bottom of the tuna can.

Continue to align the bunnies next to each other until you have completely circled the tin can.

That’s it! Now, you are ready to decorate with your adorable DIY Candle Holder.

Caution: I recommend using only battery-operated candles in this candle holder!

How To Decorate With The Pillar Candle Holder

I initially considered adding Easter grass or maybe some moss to the DIY candle holder. But once I placed the battery-operated flicker candle inside, I felt it was perfect without any additional adornment.

Isn’t it just the sweetest? I added mine to the mantel display, but I can see it in a vignette on a side or coffee table. I also think it would be adorable with a different paint combination for a child’s room.

Isn’t it crazy what you can make for $1.25 and a little creativity? This project took all of 15 minutes to put together, and I’m not kidding. It was a windy day, and the paint on the tin can dried in the time it took me to cover the bunnies with Rub N Buff.

FAQ

Oh my gosh, the options are as endless as the colors in the rainbow! You can paint the tin can and the bunnies any color that works with your Easter decor. I think two colors would be adorable. Maybe paint the tin can bright pink and the bunnies white or brown. What about polka dots on the bunnies? So many options! Let you imagination run wild.

I would recommend using only battery-operated candles. A tall pillar candle might be okay but I’m a “better safe than sorry” kind of girl.

No! You could adapt this idea for any size can. The bunnies would be cute on a flower pot, or around a vase bottom. Add them to a recycled wine bottle or beer bottle to create a tapered candlestick holder. Have I mentioned that there are so many options?
