Fill Bottles with Homemade Kahlua

For this next step, I recommend placing your bottles inside your sink because of accidental spillage. Using a funnel, begin to fill each bottle without over filling. You need to leave room for the liquid to be shaken. Close each bottle with the flip top or cork, depending on how the bottle can be sealed. In addition, a screw top cap is perfectly ok to seal the bottles.

I found these bottles, but I also like these as well.

Shake Bottles for 3 weeks

You will want to place your bottles in an area where you can easily shake the contents occasionally over the next 3 weeks.

Then after three weeks, you Easy Delicious Homemade Kahlua is ready to be served or given as a gift. The small bottles are so perfect and appreciated as hostess gifts.

  1. I made this recipe, there are sugar crystals on the inside of my bottles, does this mean I’ve spoiled this batch?

    1. Hazel,
Most likely not. You want to be sure the sugar dissolves before pouring into the bottles and then you end to shake them occasionally until they are ready. Even after they are ready to use, you want to shake each time before using. There will be a settling on the bottom.

  2. Does the vodka get added to the hot sugar liquid . Also can you specify if you remove the pan from the heat before adding the coffee

  3. I recommend using decaf instant coffee unless you really want a caffeine high as well as a sugar high at night. It WILL keep you up.

  4. I have the perfect bottles to make this and I love Kalua. Can’t wait to make. How long can you store this?

  5. Hi Rachel,
I’ve been following your posts on Hometalk for a long time. I so enjoy all your projects! I was happy to see you over here on Foodtalk. I made this Kailua recipe and my 3 weeks were up today! This is so delicious! So much smoother than the commercial product! I added a little to my afternoon iced coffee, and it was absolutely yummy!
I was wondering if you kept it in the refrigerator for long term storage, or is pantry okay?
Thanks again! Oh, and your house is lovely!
    Regards,
    Lydia
