Don’t Go Chasing Home Décor Trends
Y’all are probably thinking “Didn’t she just talk about must have Spring Trends?” I can easily get caught up in the latest and greatest but If you noticed, the trends I referred to are mostly small decor trends.
Today on Don’t Go Chasing Home Décor Trends, I’m clarifying why I didn’t talk about all those costly trends. Trends that lead to major purchases and the “one thing leads to another” trends.
This week, I had a moment where I got exited about all the things I wanted to do in my kitchen, mostly based on some latest trends.

Home Decor Trends I was tempted to Chase
I am loving all the antique brass hardware, light fixtures and faucets. It’s a trend that I’m tempted to chase for sure.

I’m actually drooling over some of these pieces and have googled where I can purchase these latest trends.
Some of the things I Found while chasing trends

I’ve saved the Instagram photo’s and Pinned all the Pinterest Inspiration I can find.

Reality Check!!!!
Then it dawned on me! What am I thinking??????
One thing leads to another and I would have to change so many things to achieve this trend.
Now if you are remodeling or have plenty of money, I say go for it!! If I was building today, I’d definitely be using a lot of these trending fixtures. But I’m not, and if you’re budget minded as well, read on.
The Solution to HOme Decor Trends You don’t want to go chasing
First, you have to realize that trends come and go, therefore this TO shall pass!
When I finally settled down and I realized that you don’t have to chase all the trends. If you try to do so, it will definitely be an adventure, however, you may be broke. LOL
Here’s My Decision
Maybe I’ll paint my island in a new trending color and when it’s no longer popular, I can paint it the next trend.
The black hardware and authentic vintage light fixtures are timeless. Am I right?
See, I’m good at convincing myself that I don’t need to spend all that money.

I’ll keep looking for the trends in thrift stores, like this lamp. I transformed this one into one of the trending style lamps for a fraction of the cost. You can see the details here.

Maybe some new pillows and throw blankets would satisfy the urge to update!
In addition, I plan to update my bedding this Spring! The Oliva Ruffled Quilt was the #1 readers choice.

However, the Reversible Floral Doylestown Quilt was a close second choice.

So stay tuned for all the exciting, trending and inexpensive changes coming to the Ponds Farmhouse this spring.
The #1 Way to keep your Home Decor on Trend
PAINT – You can update your front door, your light fixtures, your mirrors, and your home accessories. If I see a new trend in mirror colors, most likely I’ll be painting my existing mirror frame. Most of my mirrors have several coats of paint. LOL
I hope these Home Décor Trend ideas will help you to update your home without spending a fortunate this year. If you missed some of the must have trends in accessories, you can see it here.

Love your thinking. Lighting is such a huge decision. When we built our mountain retirement home, (Magic Mountain Farm) on the TN and NC Border, the lighting choices were so difficult. I also had a builder who did not “think outside the box”, which caused me to question some of my decisions. I remember him telling me that my vanity lights were outdoor lighting so I couldn’t use them in the bathroom. When I questioned why not, he said well I guess you can, but they will look funny. They do not look funny!! I am happy with all my decisions, but sometimes I do get on that treadmill (the only one I use) and think, maybe I will change something major, but it doesn’t last too long. Like you, I grab some paint and do something I can manage!!
Barbara,
Thank you so much for your sweet comments. I really appreciate your support and uplifting words.
Thanks for following along on my journey.
Personally, Rachel, I think your ‘Card Catalog’ Dresser was one of the best adaptations of a trend I’ve seen lately. It wasn’t expensive and looks great.
Grace,
I appreciate this so much. I loved doing it.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Rachel
There will always be more than one way to design a home, kitchen, LR…BR..etc…not one is “the” most and only best design around. I think too that maybe I should change up our faucets that are only a couple years old after seeing the beautiful new shades of gold or whatever is posted. I love your space Rachel. Our homes are ours and should be unique.
Can you give me some info on your Pantry arched sign? Our kitchen is within an open concept and our pantry door has been calling out for something eye catching. I love your arched blackboard sign.
You probably created it from an antique but just maybe I could do something similar to add charm to my builder grade white pantry door??
Lori,
It was a road side find. (I didn’t find it but a friend did). He repurposed it into a chalk board and magnet board. My builder was able to build it in as a functioning door.
Lori,
Thank you for your sweet compliments too.
This is a wonderful post. It has taken me many years to realize my true decorating passions. I always come back to french country. Trying to keep up with all of those trends can cause true heartache, stress, and anxiety, especially if you live on a budget. Trends are going to change constantly because that is how money is made. At the end of the day, you have to surround yourself with things YOU love and are passionate about. Thanks, Rachel.
Miche,
Thanks so much for the encouraging words. You are so uplifting.
I love tge Olivia Ruffled quilt. I wanted to buy but two doxies that love to dig on the bed would be a disaster.
What we do for our fur babies.
Cindy
Ohh that would be a problem. Thankfully Rudy isn’t a digger (I hope) LOL
Thanks so much.
Thanks for sharing this lovely gold-finish trend, and then also sharing about waiting and thinking things through before purchasing! Pinned to my budget-friendly board!
Julie,
Thank you. I love it but I’d have change everything. LOL Thanks for your encouragement
Rachel,
Your post is such a good reminder. I think it is always a good idea to shop your own house for new looks, too. You never know what “trendy” items you may have right there in your own home! I always try to stick to classics and stay away from the trends!
Chloe,
That’s a good plan. It’s so easy to over spend when it’s not necessary.
Oh my! Love all your inspirations! You know I love everything you come up with and can’t wait for the ideas you going to show at spring time!
My favorite comforter is the blue & white!
Have a great day!
Margie,
Thanks so much.
I love all of the inspiration from your blog and IG account. Trends do come and go so I try to get by with a paint job most of the time. We are redoing our kitchen so I will definitely be researching hardware and sink fixtures. Thanks for the inspiration
Pam,
I really appreciate your encouraging comments. Thank you for following along.
Yep, I totally agree! Great post of encouragement to those of us wanting what’s new.
Cindy,
Thanks so much.
I just loved how you transformed that lamp Rachel. You are so good at making thrifted items you but your own.
Kim,
I really appreciate this.
