Want to add a touch of elegance to your home decor? White apple decor is a timeless and versatile way to bring your home a bright and airy feel. Today, I’m sharing how you can achieve this gorgeous look without breaking the bank using readily available (and affordable) fake fruit! This super easy upcycle DIY project is perfect for creating beautiful centerpieces, shelf decorations, or seasonal table decorations. These beautiful apple decorations are an elegant and stylish way to enhance your home for any season.
I brought home a dusty bowl of fake red apples from our beach cottage after our renovations. I decided to keep them for unknown reasons, and boy am I glad I did. They have been collecting more dust in my workshop for the past two years. But let me show you how I decided to upcycle those cheap plastic apples.

How To Transform Plastic Fruit Into Elegant Home Decorations
Fruit decor is a timeless an elegant way to decorate your home. You can easily find any number of fake fruit decorations made from porcelain, ceramic, wood, concrete, etc., to grace your kitchen countertops, shelves, and bookcases. Many of these are pricey options if you requie several pieces to complete a centerpiece, for example. However, plastic fake fruit is usually less expensive, and you can easily find second-hand bowls of apples, pears, lemons, etc., in thrift stores for even less. This is a perfect way to upcycle previously loved decorations.
I recently saw a centerpiece using faux white apples and decided my red apples could be transformed into something similar. Let the upcycling begin.
How To Make White Apple Decor From Fake Fruit
The first step was to clean the apples and remove any dust or greasy film. I wiped mine with Windex and a paper towel. Once your fruit is dry, find an area with good ventilation to spray paint the apples.
I used Chalky Finish, Classic White spray paint by Krylon to paint my apples. Any multi-surface spray paint will work. Place the apples on a protected surface and add the spray paint. Spray a light coverage to avoid any drips or runs. Continue to paint the apples until you no longer see the original color.
Allow the paint to dry and turn the apples to apply spray paint to any area you missed, such as the bottoms. If necessary, apply another coat of paint for good solid coverage.
Apply Gold Details
Now that the paint on the white apples is dry, you can add any embellishments you desire. I am painting the apple stems with metallic gold paint for a touch of elegance.
You could leave the stems white, paint them a natural brown, or even add faux leaves if you desire.
Optional Sealer
Finally, you can seal the apples if you prefer. They have a nice matte finish as they are. However, I decided to add a little sheen to my apples with a Satin top coat. Just spray a light coat of the sealer over the apples when all the paint is dry.
Next, you are ready to style your white apple decorations.
Insider Tip
If you prefer, you can paint the plastic fruit with craft paint and a brush. I like the speed of using spray paint but either method will work. You can also use Rub N Buff Antique Gold for the stem instead of the metallic paint for a satin finish.
How To Style White Apples?
Congratulations on your new white apple decorations. How do you plan to decorate your home with your new decor? Here are just a few options to give you some inspiration.
Add Decorative Apples To A Bowl
One of the easiest ways to style the decorative apples is to place them in a bowl. The gold stems are enhanced by filling a vintage brass bowl with the cute apples. Mix it with other white accent pieces like the white artichokes and more brass and copper accessories to create a unique kitchen island centerpiece.
You can fill a bowl with just the white apples or mix them with other decor. The elegant apples work well with the moss balls and white faux artichokes in a wicker basket.
Place White Apples on the Mantel or Bookcase
Apples are a great addition to mantels or bookcases. They brighten the mantel when mixed with tarnished brass candlesticks, old books, and napkin decoupage thrift store vases. If you’d like to see the three thrifted vases makeovers, read Upcycle Thrifted Vases Chic Style.
Use White Apples For A Table Centerpiece
Adding a few apples to a breadboard and mixing in a little greenery creates a simple table centerpiece. Here, the leftover apples can serve as placecard holders to each place setting.
The mix of rustic and elegant creates a warm, inviting tablescape.
Add Apple Decorations To A Kitchen Countertop Vignette
The apple decorations are versatile enough to mix with vintage and rustic kitchen decor. They are great for adding a touch of elegance to an empty spot that needs to be brightened.
A Simple Statement Under A Glass Cloche
Finally, I love using glass cloches to draw attention to simple decor pieces. The upcycled white apple adds just a touch of style to the living room side table. The lamp and the lantern are both DIY projects that you can see at Thrifted to Chic DIY Hobnail Design Lamp and Easy DIY Rustic Candle Lantern Under $3.00.
Thanks for staying until the end. I hope you are inspired to think before donating your old decor. Upcycling is a fun and easy way to reimagine your previously loved pieces.
