Happy Sunday, and welcome to Dirt Road Adventures! This is where we review all the exciting events behind the scenes, on the website, and the sources of inspiration I discovered online during the past week. This weekly recap ensures you don’t miss any of our adventures.
I hope you have had a wonderful week of Christmas planning. Can you believe we only have one week left?
This past week, we had some fun gatherings to soak up the season. I thought I’d share a fun behind-the-scenes with you.
Behind the Scenes – An Inexpensive Adventure
First, some friends and I visited the Historic Village of Gold Hill last weekend. It’s a magical adventure that is fun for the whole family and an inexpensive way to step back in time to enjoy the simple pleasures of the holiday season.
Gold Hill is a charming restored historical town celebrating North Carolina’s Gold Mining Boom. Walking the wooden sidewalks and stepping into the restored shops was like stepping back in time. Gold was first discovered here in 1824, and the town thrived. It is home to numerous gold mines, the two most significant in the Southeast.
We attended their annual Christmas in the Village and enjoyed popping into the quaint gift shops and antique stores. We even ran into the Grinch while shopping for antiques.
We had a delicious Cheeseburger at Flynn’s Village Grill, which was like an old tavern and very budget-friendly.
And then we spent the rest of the time exploring the cute village. There were activities for kids in the village and even a hayride. It was a fun experience spending the afternoon in the middle of nowhere!

Great job Rachel, like always. I need to know where that grinch costume came from. We had our annual family gathering since we are all from different places and my husband playes Santa. He was so bad we all had to cringe and laugh. He is the utmost GRINCH in the world. I need to find that costume for next year. He hates the holidys, to much commotion he claims. From the week before Thanksgiving until the day after Christmas, he is miserable. Me on the other hand love all the things of the season. Who ever said opposites attractive was right. Have a wonderful holiday. Kim
