Dirt Road Adventures – Do What You Do Best

Welcome to Dirt Adventures, a weekly look back at all things happening on the Blog and behind the scenes at the Ponds Farmhouse. Do you find yourself stressed because you are trying to do it all?

Last week I had an ah-ha moment about doing what you do best and wanted to share.

In addition, I found some great inspiration from around the web that you’ll want to take advantage of.

Do What You Do Best!

It feels like Spring is fast approaching here in North Carolina.

As the days got warmer, I began to stress about everything that needed to be done to prepare.

As I was stressing, I began to realize, “I can’t do it all” and “do I really need to?”

If you have followed me for a hot minute, you know I love to decorate, and budget-friendly thrifting and DIY projects fill my home.

Decorating and DIY Projects come naturally to me. I’ve always got another idea in the works and rarely stress over what’s next.

However, I’m easily influenced, and when I see something I love, I’m like, I have to have or do that.

We were planning our “forever home” at the Ponds when we visited Butchart Gardens in British Columbia.

I came home with grand plans to make all the areas surrounding the Ponds look like Butchart Gardens.

Then reality, by the name of Brad, crashed my dreams.

We don’t have the climate of British Columbia or the hundreds of staff members to maintain gardens of that magnitude.

But my gardening dreams didn’t end there, and I’m still a wanna-be gardener.

We built our DIY Greenhouse in 2020 and surrounded it with raised beds.

I have grand plans and ideas, but my first attempt at starting a cutting garden from seeds wasn’t a great success.

I followed all my friend’s suggestions and had some flowers, but the effort wasn’t worth the results.

The reality is I’m just not that good at gardening.

So back to not being able to do it all.

I was stressing over everything needed to attempt gardening again this Spring and suddenly realized that maybe I should focus on what I do best.

Why am I stressing over something that isn’t my cup of tea?

Now I sound like my mama!

I don’t plan to stop gardening, but planting what works best for me may be a better plan.

I’ll never have a garden like my friends Stacy and Kim, but that’s okay! By the way, their gardens look like Butchart Gardens for real.

Instead of worrying about growing my garden, I’ve decided to focus on DIY projects and just stick with decorating my Greenhouse.

So my ah-ha moment is to focus on what brings you the most joy and instead of trying to do it all, just “do what you do best!”

DO What you Do Best - Do what you love.

This is a look back at all my adventures this past week.

This week was filled with DIY projects and entertaining ideas. With the idea of doing what you do best, these are all the things I love to do. Creating a unique table setting with DIY projects and thrift store finds is some of my favorite things to do.

In addition, we traveled to our beach cottage to work on the bathroom.

Last winter and spring were consumed with the Beach Cottage Renovations. We are finally putting some finishing touches on the house.

Tiny Beach Cottage Remodel.

We are changing out the bath vanity and painting. I created a stenciled wall that was inspired by wallpaper. It turned out great, and I’ll be sharing all the details with you soon.

My neighbor and I did a little shopping in Wilmington and found the perfect mirror for the bathroom update.

It was a fun week on the blog, and here are all the posts…..

I know exactly what you mean, Rachel. How you feel about gardening is how I feel about DIY projects and sharing recipes. I would love to share these wonderful things on my blog, but I know I'm just not as good as other bloggers, and frankly, I don't want to be. We all have our passions and should focus on those. On the boat, I've been to Butchart Gardens a few times and can't wait to go again this May. It is the most beautiful place to visit. Thank you for sharing my garden. You are the best.

I just LOVE this message Rachel! Such a good reminder that we can't do it all - we can appreciate it all but sticking to what we do best is such a relief for the brain - love it!

Oh Rachel, that is music to my ears... It is so true, we bloggers tend to want to do it all. It is not easy my friend and we do need to make choices. Thank you for the reminder my friend and the lovely share. XO

Thanks so much for sharing Rachel. I’m not a gardener either. Not at all. I can make a window box but that’s about it😂
