Happy Sunday, and welcome to Dirt Road Adventures: Celebrating Memorial Day Weekend! This is where we review all the exciting events behind the scenes, on the website, and the sources of inspiration I discovered online during the past week. This weekly recap ensures you don’t miss any of our adventures.
Welcome to another week of Dirt Road Adventures! If you are celebrating Memorial Day Weekend, I hope you are having the best time.
After a super busy week, we are finally getting to relax for the holiday weekend. It started out a little rocky, and you’ll not believe what happened.
In addition to all the necessary things that have to be done around The Ponds before leaving for the beach, we had a super busy week.
Rudy and I both had hair appointments. I had a dentist’s appointment, and Brad and I both had eye appointments. We also had our tires rotated and our car inspected. I had to stand in line twice to get our license tags renewed. (long story) We bought a new refrigerator and donated our old one to Habitat Restore. It was a non-stop week!
We were packing and throwing things in the car so that we could rush to the beach as soon as all these appointments were over.
But guess what happened?
I left my bag with all my clothes! YES!!! Can you believe it??? I had my bathing suit and all my shoes, but I had no clothes. Fortunately, I left a few things at the cottage, but not enough.
I shared my dilemma with my friend, and she said her daughter and SIL were coming the next day. With a little help from my family and her SIL, I had my clothes by Friday night. Whew! For a minute, I thought I’d get to go shopping and purchase a whole new wardrobe! LOL
After all the drama, we are having a wonderful time with our beach family. Last night, we had a Memorial Day gathering, with everyone contributing tasty appetizers for a festive Celebration. We are sad that some of our friends are not able to be with us this weekend and are praying for renewed health and healing.

Why Didn’t I Think of That?
There are so many wonderful blog posts each week, and I’m sharing some of my favorites with you today.
There are so many creative ideas, and I’m always asking myself, “Why didn’t I think of that”? LOL
- I love decorating with American flags for summer and wish I had more vintage ones. Anna at Sky Lark House shared this great article Collecting Vintage U.S. Flags. I’m encouraged to keep looking for more.
- My friend Cindy also shared some great Patriotic Decor Inspiration Ideas.
- I think I have shared this one before but I love CoCo’s DIY Vintage Bucket Label tutorial and want to try making some.
- I’ve never thought about dying dried hydrangeas but with some of mine fading, I can’t wait to try Wendy’s tips on how to dye Dried Hydrangeas.
- KariAnne’s article When NOT to Makeover a yard sale find really made me think about all the repurposing of thrifted finds. Sometimes they are perfect just the way they are. Check out why!
- I loved all the tips on Stacy’s The Secret to Growing Foxgloves: My 30-Year Journey to Success!
- My creative friend Jennifer shared 15 DIY projects to brighten your home for summer.
Thrifting Finds
Between appointments, I was able to stop by a few thrift stores and had some good luck.
First, I found these two vases, which I’ve already updated with the Magnolia Inspired Napkin Decoupage.
The other items will be put to good use soon. I love the Spode botanical plates and the leaf dish as they are. The botanical book has such great images, and I’m not sure what I’ll do with it yet. Larger vase and the wooden candleholder will definitely get an update. The finials may stay as they are. You never know where they will end up. But stay tuned for possible ideas.
What’s In My Cart
I recently shared some of the updates we made to our beach cottage. Adding the rattan cane to the cabinet fronts made such an impact in the cottage bedroom. Y’all know that one thing leads to another, so I’m working on some more projects. Here are a few of the things I added to my cart. I can’t wait to share what I’ve done with them.
- I needed this air-dry clay for the project.
- And these inexpensive wall lamps (wait until you see the after.)
- I bought this bias tape maker for a future project.
- Remember our new thrifted outdoor furniture? We repainted everything and added new adjustible leg levelers.
- We used several cans of this white spray paint.
- We love the convenience of this sweeper at the beach cottage.
- These new sneakers are so comfortable; I wear them with everything.
Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. If you are celebrating this Memorial Day Weekend, I hope you are enjoying good food and friends.

What a wild way to kick off the weekend, Rachel! I'm thankful that everyone rallied to get your clothes but totally agree with you that a new summer wardrobe would have been fun. I'd definitely pick up a few things just for making it through all the extra drama :) Thanks so much for sharing my vintage label idea. I really appreciate it. Big hugs and hope you have a relaxing week, CoCo
