What Is A Charcuterie Board Party?
If you plan to throw a Charcuterie Board Party, you may think your party will consist of items found on a traditional charcuterie board. The Charcuterie Board definition, according to Wikipedia, is “an appetizer typically served on a wooden board or stone slab that features a selection of preserved foods, especially cured meats or pâtés, as well as cheese and crackers or bread.”
However, with a surge in popularity, you will find many appetizer themes called Charcuterie boards. So you can think outside the box when planning your amazing party to wow your guests.
You may have heard of grazing boards. This is another term used for similar boards and is called grazing because guests pick food directly from the board or platters.
Therefore, a Charcuterie Board Party will include one or more appetizer grazing areas filled with complimentary foods.
I just hosted our annual Christmas Cocktail party, and this year’s theme was Charcuterie Boards.
The party was a huge success, and I’m sharing how I set up the Charcuterie boards and what I served. In addition to the boards, platters, and cake stands, I added budget-friendly, easy appetizers to the serving tables.
I hope these tips will encourage you to plan your party.
Monthly Supper Club Series
Today’s tablescape is part of our monthly Supper Club Series.
If you are joining us for the first time, we are a group of friends who love to entertain, and when entertaining in person wasn’t recommended, we started a virtual supper club in January 2021.
We are from different areas of the country, and it’s always fun to see each person’s interpretation of the monthly theme. Meet the Supper Club Hosts.
- Michele, Vintage Home Designs from Texas
- Jennifer, Midwest Life & Style from Nebraska
- Anne & AnnMarie, Simply 2 Mom’s from North Carolina
- I’m also from North Carolina.
We are excited to have the talented Missy from Sonata Home Design as our guest host this month.
Seafood Charcuterie Board Ideas
First, I planned a seafood Charcuterie board idea. Instead of using one large board, the end of our kitchen island would serve as a serving area.
The cabinet top was covered with red craft paper to designate the board, and a Sharpie was used to identify the different seafood dishes.
What To Include on a Seafood Charcuterie Board?
There are several options for Seafood Charcuterie Board Ideas.
I decided to keep mine simple with just three seafood items.
- Mini Crab Cakes with Aioli sauce
- Smoked Salmon with Cream Cheese and Capers
- Clam Dip
- Crakers and Naan Dippers
Other options that would work well for a Seafood Charcuterie Board
- Shrimp Cocktails
- Shrimp and Grit Cups
- Crab Dip
- Oysters on Half Shell
Smoked Salmon Christmas Charcuterie Board Idea
The smoked salmon tray is designed to look like a Christmas tree. It’s arranged on a slate serving tray placed in the refrigerator to help keep the salmon cold during the party.
Brad smokes the salmon, and you can see his Cured Cold Smoked Salmon recipe here.
To create the Christmas tree, I began at the bottom and layered each piece of salmon, reducing the width as I reached the top. Then, a dot of cream cheese and a caper were placed on each piece. Finally, fresh-cut rosemary surrounds the tree, and a star-shaped cookie serves as the tree topper.
Additional cream cheese and capers are available in small pewter bowls while a cute mouse holds a sign identifying the dish.
Mini-Crab Cakes with Aioli Sauce
A large oval platter is filled with mini-crab cakes and is topped with a star-serving dish filled with homemade aioli sauce.
Clam Dip Appetizer
At the other end of the island, a bowl filled with homemade Clam Dip and served with crackers or naan dippers to complete the seafood Charcuterie Board Idea.
Traditional Charcuterie Board and Appetizers
The dining table is filled with a traditional Charcuterie board and additional appetizers.
Risers keep the food and accessories at varying heights around the table.
The centerpiece is made of fresh-cut greenery and feathers. If you missed the tutorial, you can see it at How To Create a Rustic-Chic Greenery and Feather Centerpiece, and the Magolina and Antler Wreath tutorial can be seen at DIY Christmas Wreath with Magnolia, Antlers, and Pinecones.
The 17 x 28-inch wooden Charcuterie Board is filled with the traditional mix of cheese and fruit. Brie, cheddar, and pepper jack cheese are mixed with grapes, strawberries, and kiwi. Salami, prosciutto, and other cured meats, olives, and blueberry-coated goat cheese offer an amazing array of flavors for a festive Christmas Charcuterie Board Idea.
How To Make Salami Roses
Have you seen those cute roses made from salami? They are super easy to make.
All you need is a wine glass or any glass with a small opening. Just wrap your hard salami around the rim and flip it over. Ta Da!

The reindeer theme continues with pewter deer and serving bowls filled with pickles and nuts.
More budget-friendly appetizers are located on the dining table. Cheese crisps, pigs and blankets, and salami-wrapped pickled okra quickly filled the reindeer paper plates.
The rustic buffalo plaid tablecloth was previously used for a summer tablescape, and the antler pewter three-tiered bowls have been used for many seasons.
Budget Dessert Charcuterie
Another area of the kitchen island holds the dessert Charcuterie. Many of the sweets were purchased from Costco, saving me a lot of time while preparing for the annual Christmas party.
The dessert Charcuterie began with a round wooden tray filled with colorful macarons. The center bowl holds mint-flavored chocolates.
The tray is surrounded by several cake stands filled with additional fruit and sweets.
Insider Tip
Setting up several food stations helps to encourage the guests to move around the house.
For the party, one side of the island has the seafood charcuterie spread, and the other holds the desserts.
The table is filled with the large traditional Charcuterie board and other easy, budget-friendly appetizers.
We have a wine bar, cocktail bar, and beer station, all located in different areas of the house.
Even with the precautions, the guests will always gravitate to the kitchen. That’s why we built our farmhouse with the kitchen open to the living room and dining area.
