Pinterest Challenge
Welcome to our monthly Pinterest Challenge series hosted by Cindy at County Road 407. Each month, she chooses an inspirational photo, which we use to inspire the key elements in our decorating approach. This month’s inspiration photo comes from Sharon at House On Heatherfield. If you are joining me from Country Road 407, I know you loved how Cindy mixed old and new to create her stunning mantel.

Spring Mantel Decor Inspiration
When faced with a Pinterest challenge, I first examine the key element of the inspiration photo. Then, I look for elements I have found at thrift stores or made previously. Here are the elements that I plan to include in my version of a Spring Mantel, which is full of budget-friendly DIY and thrift store finds.
- Woven Basket with Oversized Flower Bouquet
- Touches of Easter Decoration
- Garden Elements include greenery, watering cans, and clay pots.
- Vintage books
# 1 – Texture With Woven Basket and Oversized Flower Bouquet
First, I’m excited to add my latest DIY paper flowers to the Spring mantel. For my first mantel display, I used a thrifted handmade woven basket vase to hold the oversized flower bouquet. The woven design adds organic texture to any table or mantel vignette, and it’s the perfect size for holding an oversized flower bouquet made from coffee filters.

# 2 – Touches of Easter Mantel Decor
Next, I wanted to include a touch of Easter in the mantel decor. The oversized paper flower bouquet called for an equally oversized Easter addition. Since my DIY moss Easter bunnies are spending time indoors due to our un-Spring-like weather, I added one to the other side of the mantel to balance the display. To add a touch of candlelight, I included the bunny candle ring, made with Dollar Tree wood bunnies. In addition, two battery-operated LED small lamps make more subdued lighting possible.
The moss theme includes a dough bowl with moss spheres and gold figs. A preserved boxwood topiary adds more greenery.

# 3 – Garden Elements include greenery, watering cans, and clay pots.
In Sharon’s inspiration photo, she utilizes her hearth to display more spring decor. Although I don’t have a hearth, I added some items in front of the fireplace surround. To add some garden elements to my Spring fireplace mantel ideas, I pulled out some old DIY topiaries to add a touch of greenery. The decorative flower pot I made with hot glue holds one of the topiaries, and the other is a grapevine topiary in a simple clay pot. The finishing touch is a thrifted vintage copper watering can and a small step stool.

# 4 – Vintage Books
I also wanted to add some vintage books to the vignette, so to complete the lower level of the mantel display, I added a stack of green vintage books. An updated thrift store vase, more moss spheres, and a sweet little Spring bird complete the vignette.

DIY and Thrifted Mantel Decor
I love creating vignettes using DIY and thrift store finds and the mantel decor has a fresh look, featuring both old and new budget-friendly DIY projects. Even the mantel itself was a previous DIY project. However, I had a few recently purchased items to help decorate the mantel for Spring
Here are the spring fireplace mantel ideas that were purchased.
- Gold Fig Decor
- 2 Small LED battery lamps in Gold
- Preserved Boxwood Topiary
- Oblong Dough Bowl and Moss Spheres
That’s it; everything else is vintage, DIY, or thrifted. Next, let’s take a look at some other styling options.

Option Two – Spring Fireplace Mantel Ideas
Want more Spring Fireplace Mantel Ideas? Let’s take a look at ways to use some of these same elements in new and interesting ways for mantel decor.
One of the first changes is removing the paper flowers from the woven basket vase and replacing them with moss spheres. I’ve added vintage brass candlestick holders and a DIY napkin decoupage vase to complete the vignette at one end of the mantel. I also added a couple of small preserved boxwood wreaths to add a touch more greenery.

A few of the coffee filter paper flowers look lovely displayed in the oblong dough bowl at the center of the mantel. The stack of green books moves up to the top of the mantel with a pottery vase and more napkin decoupage thrift store decor.

All the previous elements are still in play with the rearranged mantel decor.

Option 3 – Spring Mantel Decor
Let’s take a look at option 3 for the Spring Mantel Decor. It’s incredible how moving items around can create a whole new feeling when decorating your home. This time, I’ve taken the paper flowers and ran them along the middle of the mantel.

The lower profile of the flowers allows you to keep the mantel ends simple. I’ve added more vintage brass candlesticks and left the napkin decoupage thrift store vases in place. In addition, a bird’s nest and a sweet little decorative bird give the mantel that Spring vibe.

Mantel decor doesn’t have to be expensive to look boutique-worthy. Although boutique-style paper flowers and unique vases are costly, there’s no reason to break the bank. You can achieve the look of today’s stylish mantel, with clever thrift store purchases and DIY projects for a fraction of the cost.

You are so kind. I appreciate this and have the best day.
What cute Spring mantel ideas Rachel, I like each version! I made some of your cabbages recently and I love how you made your coffee filter peonies! I made some last year but didn’t achieve the bud in the middle… guess I’ll be making more lol!
Cindy,
Thank you! I’m so glad you like this version of the coffee filter crafts. So fun and easy. Have a blessed day.
Rachel, I love that you’ve shared three different ways to style your mantel! Having choices makes it nice so then you can see if one works better with certain items. The paper flowers are really pretty and now that I’ve read your post on making the cabbages, I can see how to adapt that for flowers.
And the bunny! I had to show my husband and tell him how it was made!! I also love how you made your fireplace surround out of reclaimed wood.
Happy almost spring and enjoy your springtime mantel,
Hugs,
Barb
