Dirt Road Adventures – DIY Projects

Happy Sunday Friends! I’m excited to take a look back at this past week here at the end of the dirt road. I will also be sharing some adventures from off the Dirt Road as well.

This week I’m talking about DIY Projects on Dirt Road Adventures! I’ve had a lot of questions about what motivates me to create projects.

Inherited DIY Ability

First, I’ve shared many times that I was doing DIY projects before it was cool. When I first started sewing, it was out of necessity. Over the years, I continued to make things that I couldn’t afford to buy. So that’s how it all started and I’m fortunate that I inherited by dad’s ability to look at something and then be able to make it.

I shared how to make an Easy DIY Grapevine Topiary on the blog this past week. I originally saw a real climbing plant that inspired me to make these. I began with a smaller version and loved it so much decided to make this larger one.

Love for DIY Projects

Now that ability is so ingrained in me that I find it a challenge and exciting to make something rather than buy it. I’m also very impulsive and will start a project without researching the best practices. I also start many projects without the proper tools or supplies.

Last April, I took on the challenge of Deconstructing a Chair. I learned so much and you can learn from my many mistakes.

The deconstructed chair without the fabric. The Real Truth about deconstructing a chair. Farmhouse style decor
I love the challenge and seeing something transformed from trash to treasure really is a thrill. I get excited about the project without thought of proper procedures.

Another example is when I saw these expensive plate chargers at Pier One Imports and decided I could make something similar for less. You can see all the details on DIY Twig Plate Chargers. They actually turned out great in my opinion.

What inspires me to create is the desire for the product. There are many projects that I make because I can’t find an item that I’ve envisioned in my mind. In fact, I have a new DIY project coming next week that developed because I wanted something that I could see in my mind but couldn’t find in a store or online. I can’t wait for you to see it.

Thrifting Adventures

This past week I shared How to Display Thrift Store Collections. This was part of our new monthly series, Thrifting with the Gals. Every Wednesday, my friends from around the country and I go thrifting and take you along on our Instagram stories. You can follow along here. Then once a month, we all share tips and tricks, styling ideas, repurposed ideas, etc. on our blogs. Here is a few of my favorite photo’s from this weeks post, decorating with Thrift Store collections.

A combination of my latest obsession, copper and my ironstone collection.
