Vintage Wood Crate Christmas Decor: Rustic Farmhouse Charm

If you are looking to add a rustic charm to your farmhouse this Christmas, check out these farmhouse wooden crate decorations. See tips for decorating a vintage wood crate that creates a cozy vignette filled with Christmas nostalgia. And the best part is I didn’t spend any money.

I love collecting old wooden crates, and adding vintage Christmas decorations is just icing on the cake. I think everything looks better in a crate. Don’t you agree?

I’m joining my friend Cindy at County Road 407 for her monthly Pinterest Challenge, and this month is about how to style a wooden crate for Christmas. If you are coming over from First Day of Home, thank you for stopping by.

How To Find The Perfect Wood Crate?

I am a fan of vintage wooden crates and old wood boxes. Therefore, the selection to choose from is quite extensive.

I purchased this vintage green wood crate along with the vintage COKE sign at a Picker’s Flea Market last year. I like that the green on the crate compliments the colors in the vintage advertising sign. They have a festive holiday feel without adding any Christmas decorations.

How To Decorate A Farmhouse Wooden Crate For Christmas?

There are so many options to fill the wooden crate with Christmas decorations for a festive holiday look. However, I have an overabundance of mini Christmas trees to choose from and decided that one of the trees would be perfect inside the crate.

How To Add Mini Christmas Tree

Begin by adding the tree to one side of the crate. Be sure your tree is tall enough that the lower limbs of the tree will be above the top of the wooden crate. If necessary, you can add a riser inside the crate to lift the Christmas tree higher.

To add more vintage rustic charm, add a few small shiny brite ornaments to the tree. I also added a small DIY wood bead garland that includes colors from the vintage sign.

Wooden Crate Christmas Decorations

The wooden crate Christmas decorations don’t all have to be inside the crate.

For this vignette, the crate will sit on top of an old trunk at the top of the stairs, and since I’m a more is better kind of girl, the area around the crate will be decorated as well. Here, I’ve added a small wreath beside the crate.

There are plenty of snowmen around my house this time of year, and this regal fellow fit perfectly into the small wreath.

You could also add another tree, an ornament, or a Santa to the fill-in beside the farmhouse wooden crate decorations.

I love reusing old décor in unique and different ways each year, and you can see other ways to repurpose old Christmas décor here.

Let’s Fill Up The Wood Crate

The tree feels only inside that large crate, so let’s add some more vintage.

First, I love to collect vintage children’s Christmas books and scatter them around the farmhouse during the holidays. They add a cozy, old-fashioned feel.

To add the books to the wood crate, I stacked 4 or 5 books together and made a fan of them. Then I tucked them into the wood crate next to the tree.

In addition to the books, I added a few of the pinecones that were foraged around the property. However, before they were added, I used my 2 Easy Step Flocking Method on the tips of the pinecones to give them a snowy feel.

To finish the vignette, I added a wooden sifter behind the snowman and another small tree next to the trunk. Now we have a cozy spot at the top of the stairs.

I loved filling this wood crate with Christmas goodness and guess what? I didn’t spend a penny. YAY!!

It is the perfect addition to this small space at the top of the steps. The rustic farmhouse wooden crate decorations add a cozy old-fashioned feel to the space.

I know this is a older post but I had to tell you I'm going to flock a small tree I have and try the vintage aging process for newer ornaments. I call that a head start on next year. LOL Have a blessed Christmas.
