Who says you need to spend a fortune to get the latest bottle brush trees this Christmas? I’ll show you how you can transform your humble bottle brush trees into show-stopping Christmas displays with these affordable, on-trend ideas. Ideas from Anthropologie and Pottery Barn are easily duplicated with inexpensive Dollar Tree materials, some ribbon, baubles, and a little creativity. So grab your hot glue gun, and let me show you these amazing updates.
When I pulled out my decorations this year, I had a huge box marked bottle brush Christmas trees. However, none of them were the latest trends I’ve been seeing. There wasn’t a bow in sight, and I didn’t see any twinkle lights either. But I recognized that those $30 and $40 trees were the same as mine except for some minor embellishments. Let me show you how I transformed this Dollar Tree tree for less than two dollars.

Designer Trends In Bottle Brush Tree
One of the hottest designer trends in bottle brush trees this Christmas is the addition of bows. I can’t believe how expensive these trees are! But the good news is that you can recreate this trend in seconds with an old tree. If you don’t have old trees, just pop over to Dollar Tree and pick one up for $1.25. In addition to the bows, many other high-end trends only take a few seconds to duplicate.
Here are the trends I see everywhere in high-end shops, and I’ll walk you through the process of creating each one of these ideas.
- Bottle Brush trees with tiny bows
- Gold Trees With Sparkly Baubles
- Pink and blue trees with soft-colored baubles
- Gold Trees with twinkle lights
- Green trees with snowy tips and red berries
- Jingle Bell Trees
- Trees in tea cups
- Gold trees in mossy-covered arrangements

Here are some of the supplies I used to update the inexpensive trees.

- Gold Ribbon

- Miniature Gold Trees
Gold and Mossy Mini Arrangement
Did you happen to see the Anthropologie Gold Bottle Brush Tree Centerpiece on a mossy green base? It’s a stunning arrangement and, well, to say the least, expensive. Since I already had my centerpieces planned for this year, I decided to create a similar look but in miniature.
I had a package of six mini gold trees from Dollar Tree. So, I decided to fill a vintage coffee cup with some green moss and add the tiny trees for a cute addition to our bedroom vignette. Here’s how I made my Anthropologie-inspired arrangement.
First, I pulled out a vintage coffee cup, a Styrofoam ball, mini-bottle brush trees, and my trusty hot glue gun. I cut the Styrofoam ball so that it was flat on the bottom and top, and then I used hot glue to secure it inside the cup. Next, I covered it with green moss secured with more hot glue.
I removed some of the tree stands to create different heights and hot-glued five trees to the styrofoam. Finally, I added more moss to cover the bases, finishing it in a snap.
Although much smaller than the Anthropologie version, it still looks adorable for Christmas decorating.
Bow Bottle Brush Trees
Bottle brush trees with cute little bows are all the rage this year, and it’s probably the easiest trend to duplicate.
I purchased a roll of gold dot ribbon for only $1.00 at Hobby Lobby and quickly tied several tiny bows. Then, with a small drop of hot glue, I attached them to Dollar Tree bottle brush trees, and they look adorable.
Gold Bauble Trees
I’ve been crushing on these gold-on-gold trees with small gold baubles. The ones I saw were outrageously expensive. I picked up a few gold trees at Dollar Tree and purchased a Christmas stem with glittery gold berries.
I used wire snips to cut the berries from the stem and then added hot glue to attach them to the tree.
Pink Bottle Brush Trees with Pastel Ornaments
Did you know that you can get almost any color bottle brush Christmas trees at Dollar Tree? I purchased these pink ones last year to use in our guest bedroom. But this year, Anthropologie had adorable pink trees with pastel ornaments, so I decided to update mine for a designer look.
I found these cute little ornaments at Hobby Lobby and used pink and silver ornaments on my trees. It was simple to add hot glue around the hanger part of the ornaments and press that side into the tree bristles.
Green Bauble Tree
Anthropologie also has these green bottle brush Christmas trees with baubles, so I used the remaining ornaments to decorate one of my existing trees.
Snowy Trees With Red Berries
Another fresh new look is the addition of snow-capped trees with red berries. To upcycle old trees, use this 2 step fake snow technique to layer extra snow on the branch and a stem of red berries. Cut the berries from the stem with wire snips and tuck them into the branches with hot glue.
Add Twinkle Fairy Lights To Gold Trees
This year, Pottery Barn updated its gold bottle brush trees with twinkle fairy lights. My trees got the same update for a fraction of the cost. I wrapped some battery-operated fairy lights around my existing gold trees and nestled them together. This long strand of fairy lights covered several trees to save on batteries.
Jingle Bell Trees
I purchased a bag of gold jingle bells at Dollar Tree, and in addition to the ornaments and baubles, I decorated one tree with the bells. A drop of hot glue holds them to the tree bristle and a tiny bow tops the tree.
How To Add Designer Bases To Cheap Trees
Another way to give your inexpensive trees a designer look is to add custom bases. I recently found these wooden blocks at the thrift store for 50 cents each. I painted the blocks with gold craft paint and attached the cheap trees with hot glue. This one addition gives the bottle brush trees a designer look and allows for a variety of heights.
I mixed the updated trees with my DIY Rustic Christmas Village for an amazing mantel vignette.
Add Bottle Brush ChristmasTrees To Vintage Tea Cups
Another way to give your bottle brush Christmas trees a high-end designer look is to add them to a vintage tea cup.
To create a sturdy design, add a small piece of styrofoam to the bottom of the cup with hot glue. Then, cut the base off with wire snips. Next, cut a piece of Dollar Tree mop head to fit around the base of the tree. Attach the tree by pressing the wire stem into the styrofoam and add hot glue to secure the mop head pieces to the styrofoam. The white mop head gives it a snowy feel.
I added the pink updated trees to our guest room decoration.
