Embrace the Charm of a Vintage Christmas: A Curated Home Tour

Welcome to our Curated Home Tour, filled with Vintage Farmhouse Christmas Charm. You are in the right place if you strive for a unique, curated home decorating style. Although our farmhouse is a new build, we have tirelessly aimed to create a warm, time-worn feel with antiques and vintage items collected over our lifetime. Today’s tour will inspire you to look beyond the decorating trends and create a home that is uniquely you and clarifies the meaning of curated.

Many of the Christmas decorations you will see on today’s tour are either vintage, thrifted finds, or handcrafted for affordable decorating.

Since last year’s Christmas Tour, we have added many new DIY and repurposed projects to the farmhouse, and I hope you enjoy all the changes.

What Does Curated Mean?

Are you unsure of the meaning of curated? The word “curated” is an adjective that means “carefully chosen and thoughtfully organized or presented.” It is often used to describe collections of items that have been selected with a specific purpose or theme in mind.

When referring to a curated home, it is carefully chosen furniture and accessories that are free of trends and reflect the true personality of the owner.

A curated home contains family heirlooms and collected items purchased because you love them, without regard to current trends.

Although many curated homes may be filled with vintage and antiques, they truly combine handcrafted, unique, and found objects. This creates an eclectic mix of old and new that blends seamlessly with modern essentials.

Our Curated New Farmhouse

We planned our home with an old farmhouse in mind. Although it wasn’t possible to renovate an old house for our forever home, we were able to infuse the new build with antique farmhouse doors, light fixtures, and architectural elements. Additionally, the decor has been curated over many years, focusing on authenticity.

As you tour our curated modern farmhouse, I’ll share the curated antique and vintage additions, the repurposed projects, and the DIY Christmas decorations we added this year. I certainly hope you are inspired to use our budget-friendly approach to create the home of your dreams.

How To Mix Old and New For A Vintage Christmas

What’s old is new again in 2023. If you are concerned about mixing new Christmas decorations with your vintage finds, don’t be. You will notice that many reproduction vintage Christmas decorations are sold in high-end stores, and vintage is very on-trend.

Here are a few timeless, old-fashioned Christmas decorations that will give your home a warm vintage charm.

  • Bottle Brush Trees
  • Pinecones
  • Dried Fruit (orange slices, dried apples, etc.)
  • Natural evergreens and other foraged materials
  • Handcrafted ornaments and pillows
  • Vintage Christmas glass ornaments

Determine A Christmas Theme

Determining your Christmas theme is one of the best ways to mix old and new Christmas decor. This could be a combination of colors, a winter wonderland, snowmen, etc.

A reindeer theme can be seen throughout our farmhouse this Christmas—Deer Antlers, repurposed reindeer decorations, and natural greenery deck the halls this year.

The theme was born when I found a deer skull with antlers in an antique mall. I envisioned it above the dining table for a rustic Christmas theme.

Therefore, the Christmas dining area includes a DIY Deer Antler, magnolia and pinecone wreath, and a natural evergreen centerpiece with faux deer antlers.

The tablescape combines old and new tableware for a seamless Christmas Cabin Supper Club theme.

Reindeer Theme

The reindeer theme continues throughout the farmhouse. The industrial staircase is enhanced with faux cedar garland, and DIY large dollar tree ornaments are transformed for a high-end look. The reindeer theme continues with deer busts added to star wooden ornaments and mixed with the other Dollar Tree cutouts.

Additional repurposed Dollar Tree reindeer adorn the steps and serve as stocking holder decorations.

Coffee Table Vintage Christmas Curated Centerpiece

The coffee table is located in the center of the living room, and a challenge to make it look good from all directions.

This year, a trio of rustic metal reindeer, Vintage Christmas glass ornaments, and natural greenery fill a vintage red enamelware bowl for a unique centerpiece.

Curated Farmhouse Vintage Christmas Tree

The farmhouse vintage-inspired Christmas tree is filled with authentic vintage Christmas glass ornaments I’ve collected for several years. I’ll select a few color combinations for the tree decorations most years. However, I decided to throw caution to the wind and mix all the colors this year. In addition, I’ve added some handcrafted ornaments for an old-fashioned Christmas feel.

For another update this year, the tree sits in a huge vintage brass cauldron that we found while thrifting in Wilmington, NC. It was one of those “I have to have it” moments, and I knew I’d use it for my Christmas tree. It’s so large that I can fill it with gift packages, vintage shiny brite boxes, and the tree itself.

To complete the Christmas tree vignette, I added three smaller trees and some vintage children’s Christmas books to a low stool beside the entry table.

Decorated Shabby Chic Faux Fireplace Mantel

I am so excited to decorate the new DIY Shabby Chic Faux Fireplace Mantel I shared with you on Monday.

The mantel creates a new focal point in the living room, and the repurposed architectural savaged posts add to the curated home feel. I quickly added some festive garlands and twinkle lights. I didn’t want to cover the mantel since it’s so new, and we are so excited about how it turned out.

The TV is above the mantel, and we quickly found a Christmas-themed screen saver on YouTube to look like art instead of a black box.

In addition to the greenery garlands, we added mini-trees, foraged pinecones, flicker candles, and more reindeer, which were included to continue this year’s holiday theme.

The brass deers were a cheap thrift store find and added to the rustic style of the mantel decorations.

Another curated architectural element frames the TV for added vintage authenticity. Sophie, Silent Night painting is peeking around the corner from the hallway this year.

Curated Home Vintage Inspired Christmas Kitchen

As you can see, the kitchen, living room, and dining room are all open to each other. The kitchen is the heart of the farmhouse and a favorite spot for Christmas decorating.

Vintage Christmas Kitchen Decorating

Simple vintage Christmas touches were added to the kitchen this year.

More thrifted and vintage copper, wooden trays, and dough bowls enhance the cozy, curated home feel.

The kitchen island is built from two sideboards, industrial pipes, and an aged wood top. It was the first repurposing project for the new farmhouse and is still a favorite.

The curated home feel continues with collections of breadboards, cutting boards, tarnished brass candlesticks, and vintage rolling pins.

Curated Dining Area

A favorite curated antique piece is the honey pine cabinet, an anniversary gift many years ago. It’s one piece I’d never part with, although I get attached to many of my curated finds.

I love filling it with vintage ironstone and other thrifted finds curated over many years.

Finally, the antique farm table is a new purchase this year. After searching for several years, I found the perfect table at an Antique Picker’s Festival.

I have seen many beautiful reproductions but was waiting for an authentic antique table. So many looked fantastic but impractical due to height or poor condition.

The table is made of solid walnut and is very sturdy. I am enjoying the rustic feel of the Christmas tablescape on the new-to-me table. You can see the Rustic Cabin Christmas Centerpiece and Budget Table Ideas for more details.

In addition, the card catalog serves as a wine bar in the dining area. I added the DIY Wine Cork Christmas trees to decorate the area this year.
