5 Rustic Dining Table Setting Ideas for Fall

Fall is a great time to share rustic dining table setting ideas. A rustic tablescape is easy to create with fall and autumn colors.

Today’s table is part of our monthly Supper Club, and our theme this month is Chowderfest! I know you will love all the great Chowder recipes we are sharing on Saturday.

Each month we have a guest host joining us, and I’m so excited to welcome Renae from Peacock Ridge Farms. Renae loves entertaining and even built a barn to host parties and other events at her lovely home. I know you will love seeing all her creative table ideas.

If you are joining me from Simply 2 Moms, welcome! Didn’t you love their party hosting ideas

How To Plan For a Chowderfest Tablescape?

I feel that a Chowderfest is a casual affair, and I decided that a Rustic table setting was in order.

In addition, soups can be messy, and keeping the table linens to a minimum was necessary.

Read on to see how I created this rustic tablescape.

What is a Rustic Dining Table Setting?

Here are five key elements to creating a Rustic Dining Table Setting.

  • Heavy Dishes such as pottery instead of Fine China
  • Elements of Nature
  • Chunky Candlesticks
  • Wood Elements
  • Woven Natural Elements in lieu of linen tablecloth

Pottery Dishes For Fall Tablescape

This month’s theme requires heavy-duty dinnerware, such as pottery dishes and bowls, to create a rustic tablescape.

I was inspired by these rustic pottery dishes I collected when I was first married.

I have never been tired of the earthenware dishes’ blue and brown colors. They still speak to my country-loving farmhouse style after 42 years.

The burnt orange napkins work perfectly with the earthenware dishes.

Elements of Nature – Gourde Centerpiece

Nothing says rustic better than elements of nature in the fall.

For this rustic table centerpiece, I used three dried gourdes. Two are resting inside an oblong dough bowl, while the third is elevated on the wood riser.

In addition, the gourdes are surrounded by dried okra pods and a faux wheat garland. A few small faux gourdes are included in the vignette.

Since the table doesn’t have a floral centerpiece, one sits on the sideboard along with a $2.00 framed thrift store needlepoint prayer.

The rustic centerpiece is perfect for the narrow dining table setting.

Chunky Candlesticks for Fall Tablescape

To balance the rustic centerpiece, two chunky candlesticks hold everlasting Lucid Candles. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about wax drips on your tablecloth or table runner.

The white candlesticks are repurposed thrift store finds, and the candle is surrounded by a wheat candle ring that works well with the wheat garland.

Rustic Dining Table Setting Ideas – Wood Elements

For this rustic table, several wooden elements were used. Most notably are the wooden plate charges.

The chunky wooden trays work perfectly as chargers for the earthenware pottery dishes.

In addition, these mini wood crates are perfect for holding the mini muffins served with chowder this month. Just add parchment paper to keep the muffins from drying out and warm.

The cute mini wooden crates were a fun thrift store find.

Natural Woven Elements – Jute Table Runner

The rustic tablescape includes a natural jute table runner in lieu of a formal table cloth.

In addition, the table runner anchors the centerpiece, which takes up most of the space on the narrow table.

Also, the DIY light fixture over the table holds natural stems and mini pumpkins for a rustic dining room setting.

Hosting a chowderfest on the screened porch also adds to the rustic charm of the table setting.

Please don’t leave yet because my supper club friends are sharing their ideas for a Chowderfest Supper Club. Next is Stacy with her tips for throwing a potluck soup luncheon.
