Kure Beach Adventures & Activities

Hey friends, the first week of July flew by with lots of beach adventures & activities. As I mentioned last week, we are finally getting to enjoy all the renovations we made to our Tiny Beach Cottage. Instead of Dirt Road Adventures, I thought I’d share a little about the Beach Adventures and Beach Activities available on Pleasure Island, NC.

The Week of the 4th Adventures

We started the week with a 4th of July Celebration and Low Country Boil with all of our beach neighbors and friends.

It was a relaxing week with long walks and lots of sand and sun.

Kure Beach Pier

We experienced some strong winds from the storms that passed through and we feel that our skin looks at least 10 years younger after one day of sandblasting on the beach. LOL

Fortunately the storms didn’t last and otherwise, the weather was great and we had a great time.

Beach Adventures

We stayed close to home and Brad did a lot of grilling to avoid the crowds at restaurants this past week.

I shared a new Homemade Coleslaw Recipe that we made twice while we were at the beach. It’s so easy and so… good.

In addition, I shared a couple of favorite posts and I’ve included the links below.

In Case You Missed It

First, these DIY Rustic Birdhouses and then How to White Wash new wood for an aged appearance for this ceiling technique.

Kure Beach Views & Adventures

I thought I’d share a few views from the week at Kure Beach in lieu of Dirt Road Adventures. With unreliable wifi service, I didn’t get to explore a lot around the web. However, I will be back on a regular schedule next week.

Kure Beach, NC

Kure Beach is located approx. 18 miles south of Wilmington NC. It is home to one of the oldest fishing piers on the Atlantic Coast according to the Kure Beach website. Fishing and many other outdoor adventures are readily available at Kure Beach.

This quaint beach town is in the center of Pleasure Island between Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher State Historic Site and home to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.

View from Kure Beach Boardwalk

The location is ideal if you like a small beach town but also want to enjoy the amenities of larger city.

I shared details about Wilmington, NC on Thrifting with the Gals in Wilmington, NC. You can easily spend the day exploring, shopping & dining in Historical Downtown Wilmington if you tire of the sun and surf.

Although Kure Beach is a small town, you will find miles of beautiful beach and it’s packed with beach adventures including an aquarium, museum & ferry. In addition, it is only minutes away from Carolina Beach for more entertainment and restaurants.

The Ocean Front Park and Recreation Center is just across from the boardwalk and is host to weekly farmer’s market and free outdoor concerts during the summer month.

Beach Activities Surrounding Kure Beach

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is a great place to cool off and enjoy a magical under the sea experience. My daughter’s wedding was held in the aquarium and it was a beautiful setting for a beach wedding.

In addition, Fort Fisher is an Historic Civil War Site which includes a Civil War Museum as well as walking tours of the original fort.

Fort Fisher State Historic Site

It’s a beautiful property with these amazing trees and ocean views.

Lastly, the Fort Fisher Ferry runs daily with multiple trips across the waterway to the charming town of South Port, NC where more shopping and dining beach adventures await.

Beach Adventures – Dining

Although we didn’t dine out much this past week, we feel so fortunate to have so many great restaurants right here on the island. Both beaches have fabulous restaurants and these are a few of our favorites.

Kure Beach Restaurants

Freddies Italian Restaurant is number one of our favorite restaurants in Kure Beach. It’s a tiny space but filled with authentic Italian charm. Advance reservations are needed year round.

Jack Mackerel’s Island Grill has a great bar area that feel as though you’ve stepped inside a yacht with port holes and lots of wood details. Great food and atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Carolina Beach Restaurants

Carolina Beach is much larger and therefore is host to many different restaurants. Some I’ve tried and some I still want to try. Here are just a few of our favorites in case you are ever in the area.

Soul Flavor is one spot we never miss while at the beach and is our favorite in Carolina Beach. They have a wonderful menu but their nightly specials are always the highlight of our visit. They don’t accept reservations but if you get lucky you can grab a couple of seats at their “first come first serve” two large bars.

Stoked Restaurant has a great menu however the view of the waterway makes this a great spot to relax and enjoy a beverage as the boats float by. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Havana’s Restaurant is located in the heart of Carolina Beach and provides both inside and outside dinning. This dog friendly atmosphere is enhanced by their beautiful porches and patio areas overflowing with tropical flowers.

Ocean Grill & Tiki Bar is a great hangout spot with an ocean front pier bar. The restaurant comes with a great ocean view as well.

Tiki Bar

The Deck House is a great seafood restaurant located at Carolina Beach with spacious dining and great atmosphere.

I hope today’s Kure Beach Adventures will give you a little insight into our beloved beach destination for the past 30 years. We are blessed to have a small slice of beach property to enjoy and so many friends that surround us each season.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Oh Rachel, thank you so much for the ocean pictures. Being landlocked here in Phoenix, we generally spend lots of time at one of the coasts during the summer. However, with grand jury duty and a sick dog, I haven't set eyes on water yet. I was born and raised near the Connecticut shore so I really, really, really miss the ocean. Your beach home looks like the perfect place for some R&R. Thank you so sharing. It truly made my Sunday morning.

What a great spot! You all were so lucky to find that adorable beach cottage. Glad you had a wonderful holiday week. It's been so long since we've been to the beach, but I get to enjoy a bit through those of you that are closeby. Have a relaxing upcoming week!
