Sneak Peek-Small Kitchen Remodel Progress

1940’s Tiny Beach Cottage Renovation Series

Y’all I couldn’t wait to share the progress we are making in our Beach Cottage Small Kitchen Remodel.

We have new windows, new walls, new floors, new cabinet, new sink and new faucet in just one week. We partnered with Pfister Facuets to add one of their easy to install kitchen faucets to the kitchen remodel and I’m sharing all the installation details at the end of this post.

Here is a sneak peek at the progress. I’ll be sharing the full details once the kitchen is complete.

Tiny Beach Cottage

First, we have been enjoying our tiny one bedroom beach cottage for the past 30 years.

We have slept as many as 9 people in the 480 sq. ft. cottage and yes, you certainly had to be careful where you step at night.

We have so many wonderful memories and treasured moments that we wouldn’t trade our tiny cottage for an ocean front mansion.

The Renovations Began

This past fall we began our renovations with a closet addition in the bedroom. New flooring, paint, a great barn door with hardware from Delaney Hardware and new bedding. I’ll be sharing all the remodel details in an upcoming blog post.

Sneak Peek – Small Kitchen Remodel Before

This tiny kitchen is only 7 feet wide and 12 feet deep. The cabinets are so old that they disintegrated as my husband began to remove them.

The kitchen is very narrow without enough room for a table so we built a countertop along this wall. You can see everything that was stuffed inside the cabinets and countertops.

I can’t wait to show you the plan to replace this counter and add a much more functional eating spot.

Demo Day

My husband arrived a day before me so most the demo was accomplished prior to any photos. I could see the trash pile outside as I pulled up.

The walls had some terminate damage from years ago so they were easy to remove.

He was also able to replace both of the small kitchen windows before I arrived.

Once I was there to help, the new beaded board wall was installed and I began the painting process.

Kitchen Flooring

Next, we installed new laminate flooring and I’m loving how bright and airy the small kitchen is beginning to feel.

New Cabinet for Small Kitchen Remodel

Because the kitchen is so small, I wanted an open shelving for the base cabinet and no upper cabinets.

To allow the new shelving to fit around the plumbing, we had to do some careful measuring.

Our cordless jig saw from Ryobi really came in handy. It handled all the cut outs for light switches and electrical outlets.

In addition, it was easy to cut the shelving to fit around the plumbing pipes.

My husband built the cabinet base and preassembled some of the pieces prior to coming to the beach cottage. This came in handy due to the limited space in the small kitchen.

After the new farmhouse apron front sink was installed, the countertop was easily attached to the base using the Ryobi cordless drill and Rotary tool.

Easy Faucet Installation

Now we are ready to get the new faucet installed.

First, my husband drilled a hole in the wood countertop for the new faucet.

Pfister Sponsored Faucet

I was so excited when Pfister Faucets gifted me this easy to install Wray faucet. I wanted a simple designed faucet for the beach cottage and they assured me that the Wray was what I needed. As a bonus, it would be super easy to install.

My husband was relieved that all the main components were easily attached from the top of the cabinet. The only necessary connection beneath the cabinet was attaching the water lines and turning the water back on.

Ta Da! The water supply was reestablished and the kitchen was functional again after approx. 5 minutes.

The Pfister Wray Faucet included all the necessary parts needed to install, except for a couple of basic tools.

Before we began the installation, we arranged all the components, after carefully reading the easy to follow instructions. My husband was thrilled with the ease of installation.

So we now have one wall of the kitchen renovation complete and running water restored.
