Is your porch looking a little blah after the holidays? If you’d like some budget-friendly winter outdoor planter inspiration, here are my two free front porch planter for winter ideas. Y’all know I love using free foraged natural elements and filling winter outdoor planters with gathered supplies is so easy. You can hunt and gather all the items to make your planters look great for winter without spending any money.
Now that all the Christmas decor has been put away, things around the porch can look a little empty.
I like to keep the winter outdoor planters filled with a snowy winter feel. Therefore, holding back some of the snowmen or snowflakes from Christmas helps brighten the porch and make it cozy. In addition, adding a little faux snow to the natural elements also creates a cozy winter wonderland feel for the front porch planters.

Winter Outdoor Planters For The Front Porch
There are several options for winter outdoor planters, and I’ll share a few that I’ve used on our porch.
Last fall, we made these faux galvanized planters for our front porch, and I love their height.
Any size planter will work for this arrangement.
Wicker Tall Planters / Blue Planters / Stone Urn Planter
One of my favorite thrifted front porch planters is these vintage galvanized tubs. They can easily be transformed into a winter outdoor planter with foraged materials.
Front Porch Planters for Winter Ideas
Planning your winter outdoor planter ideas involves keeping a few of your Christmas decorations out of storage and gathering free materials to create a winter wonderland on your front porch.
# 1 – Winter Outdoor Planter Idea
Let’s begin with my first free outdoor winter planter idea. You will start by gathering your twigs, pinecones, and evergreen foliage supplies. If you want to add the faux snow to the pine cones and the twigs, do this ahead of time to allow for drying.
See How To Add Fake Snow To Christmas Decor in 2 Easy No Mess Steps for the easy tutorial.
Once all your supplies are ready, add a grapevine wreath or pieces of grapevine around the top of your planter.
For this front porch planter idea, fill 2 to 3 tin cans full of your boxwood greenery. If you are using magnolia or other large-leaf greenery, you may need a larger container to hold the stems steady.
Next, place them in the planters toward the back side, with the taller pieces of greenery at the back.
Then, add twigs randomly to the greenery to fill in the space. Arrange until the area is full.
Finally, place pine cones at the front of the planter in front of the greenery and along the edge of the grapevine. If necessary, add filler or extra pinecones underneath to keep the pinecones above the grapevine level.
My winter porch planters arrangement is inspired by the snowy grapevine wreath I used at Christmas. I combined the snowy wreaths with a twig wreath by using twist ties to connect them. This adds more volume to balance out the planters.
# 2 Outdoor Winter Planter Ideas
If you saw my Cozy Country Christmas Porch: Winter Wonderland, you know snowy was the theme. Therefore, I kept several of the decor pieces and just made a few adjustments to transform the porch from a Christmas Wonderland to a Winter Wonderland.
First, let’s take a look at what I left in place from the Christmas porch. I left the Dollar Tree Snowflakes on the shutters, a snowy tree with pinecones, and the standing and seated deer.
All the red bows and garlands were removed from around the front doors.
The winter outdoor planters are now filled with free, fresh-cut magnolia leaves, snowy pinecones, and a snow-covered wreath from my holiday decor. Cute paper mache snowmen are nestled into the planters for winter.
The foraged pinecones all have a touch of snow using the fake snow technique I used on the first winter outdoor planter ideas.
Easy Winter Porch Planter Ideas
These easy front porch planter ideas only took a few minutes to arrange, and all the supplies were easily found. These fresh evergreens and reusing old decor are inexpensive ways to update your porch for winter.
I love how the snowy wreath and twigs work with the DIY Shutters we added this past fall.
Final Touches
The front porch planter ideas needed a few final touches, so I added this vintage sled, additional snowy pinecones, and a cute snowman to the first winter porch!
The second winter front porch gets a cozy vibe with more free pinecones, foraged grapevine wreaths, cozy rugs, and a comfy rocking chair with a pinecone pillow.
I hope you like these winter outdoor planter ideas and cozy front porch inspirations. You can see more details about the reindeer rug and the larger rug here. The DIY address sign tutorial can be seen here.
Insider Tip – Budget-Minded Decorating
You will notice that I used several of the same items on both porches. In order to stay within a budget, I am a fan of reusing and repurposing decor. In addition, anything that was added new was foraged.
Although many items are the same, both porches and winter outdoor planters have a unique style.
Best Tip: Before purchasing new decor, try using what you have in new and interesting ways. Think outside the box, and you’ll be surprised how much money you can save.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I look forward to sharing my next adventure with you!

Rachel, I'm so glad you like this simple idea. I had put the sled away and pulled it back out at the last moment. So glad you stopped by.
