7 Best Tips For Throwing A Tailgate Party

To be honest, it’s planning the tailgate party that I love and here are my 7 Best Tips for Throwing a tailgate party that are easy but will impress your guests.

These tips will make your tailgate party a success if you are setting up in the parking lot before the game or planning a backyard tailgate party.

team Spirit Tailgate Party

First, you want to set up your tailgate or table to reflect your team spirit. My daughter attended the University of NC at Chapel Hill and my husband is their biggest fan, so I had just a few items available in the appropriate team colors.

Whether your party is for high school, college or professional football, you want your team spirit to shine. However, you don’t want to break the bank on decorations.

Here are a few ideas that are inexpensive but still allows your team spirit shine.

The pompoms and table cloth were both inexpensive Dollar Tree purchases. I only spent $4.00 to create a festive party atmosphere on the tailgate of my husband’s truck.

Use items that you already own. The wooden crate is perfect for hauling all your supplies to game and then it can double as a rise for the beverages.

Tailgate Games are a must

Everyone wants to be entertained before the game begins. Some popular games to bring to your tailgate party are corn hole, Jenga towers, horseshoes, ring toss, bocce ball just to name a few.

Corn Hole is always a favorite and allow us to use the corn hole score board we created from a thrift store find.

You want your games to be user friendly to the location of your party. Horseshoe and Bocce Ball may be best at a backyard tailgate party whereas, cornhole, jenga and ring toss are perfectly safe in a stadium parking lot.

Portable Grill

Depending on your menu a portable grill is a great idea. You can use it for burgers, hotdogs or for heating up previously prepared dishes.

There are several options available and here is a propane grill and one that is a charcoal grill. Your party location will determine which is best for you.

Finger Food

The food served at a tailgate party can take center stage. There are so many creative idea for food preparation. We will be sharing our menu and recipes with you on Saturday.

To keep your party simple, I suggest serving mostly finger food. This prevents you from having to supply a lot of extra cutlery. In addition, you don’t have to provide seating for everyone at once.

I’m excited to use these vintage berry baskets again this month. They are perfect for guest to fill with their favorite food items. It’s easy to carry without spilling and you can eat from them while you are standing or playing corn hole. LOL

Best Beverages for your Party

To keep your party simple, I recommend individual serving sizes of bottled waters, soft drinks, beer and wine. You can ice your beverages in a cooler or metal container.

Additional beverages are stored in a vintage coke crate until room is created in the iced beverage container.

Be sure to check with your venue to assure that you can serve alcoholic beverages and their policy on glass bottles, etc.

Chairs

Folding chairs will assure that your guests are comfortable at your tailgate party. However, you don’t necessarily need to provide a chair for each guest. If you are providing games and finger foods, your guest can graze without being seated the entire time.

It’s perfectly acceptable to ask your guest to provide their own chairs when your party is held outside a stadium.

If you are planning a backyard tailgate, providing chairs will be much easier.
