What Is A Country Porch?
A country porch will generally be of rustic design. The materials and design will be more natural and may include unpainted wood flooring and wooden posts.
In addition, many country porches are deep and long, providing a cool spot to relax at the end of the day.
However, any style porch can be decorated with country-style decor to create a cozy and warm environment in which you will love spending time.
Let’s look at creative ways to update your porch with budget-friendly country porch DIY ideas.
Country Porch Ideas
Today I’m sharing economical shopping and project ideas to help you save money while creating the country porch of your dreams.
Don’t be afraid to shop around for the best deals for porch decor. You can often find great deals at thrift stores, consignment shops, garage sales, and online.
In addition, these DIY ideas are also easy to make and will add country charm to your porch. Wait until you see how much money you can save.
DIY Front Door Country Porch Decor Ideas
First, let’s talk about all the DIY porch decor surrounding our country porch’s front doors.
Can you guess how many DIY projects are shown here?
DIY Address Sign
First, let’s talk about the address sign. We created this DIY project the first year in the farmhouse and have had no regrets. It’s a statement piece that adds character and style to the front doors on the country porch.
Although the sign was constructed before my blogging days, I have this tutorial that shows step-by-step instructions for building your sign.
Door Shutters Tutorial
When I decided to add full-length door shutters to the front porch, I never realized how hard it would be to find what I wanted.
After searching and giving up hope, we decided to use the short reclaimed shutters and make them tall enough.
The DIY Door Shutter tutorial is an easy project, and we love how they enhance the doors.
DIY Galvanized Planters on Country Porch
Planters are a classic country porch staple. They are perfect for adding greenery and summer flowers.
We were inspired to build these planters to resemble a vintage European grape hod used for our Christmas tree each year.
They are made of wood, but the finish resembles a rusty galvanized or zinc container.
The easy-to-follow Galvanized Planter Tutorial includes instructions for achieving the faux finish.
Aged Terra Cotta Pots
The areas surrounding the front doors are filled with vintage thrift store finds, such as the old concrete rabbit planter and chippy stool. Their aged finish adds a rustic charm to the front porch.
In addition, a chippy terra cotta pot is filled with summer flowers. However, the finish is achieved with this Easy DIY To Age New Clay Pots Tutorial.
You can easily enhance the appearance of new pots with this technique.
Recycled Metal Flower Wreath – Anthropologie Hack
Do you love Anthropologies’ unique decor style? I see many things I like but rarely find anything within my budget. Instead of spending $168.00 on a new wreath, I made one similar.
Not only is this wreath budget-friendly, but it’s environmentally friendly because it is made from recycled aluminum cans.
The Recycled Metal Flower Wreath adds a chic country style to the porch for summer.
Repurposed Wooden Spool Tassels
To add a touch of whimsey to the wreath, a couple of DIY Repurposed Wooden Spool Tassels are added to the center of each wreath.
Budget-Minded Country Porch Ideas
The porch is filled with budget-minded ideas.
Pink geraniums are added to the DIY planters to pull the new colors together, and pastel flowers spill from the aged terra cotta pot.
Don’t you love all the pink? The new blush-colored rug adds a pop of color for a fun summer feel on a country porch.
Country Porch DIY Ideas for Seating Area
Next, let’s look at the seating area at the other end of our country front porch.
This is a cozy spot to end the day with a porch swing and vintage wicker chairs.
This area includes a few budget-friendly DIY projects that help to decorate the space for less.
Country Porch DIY Idea – Handpainted Rug
A new addition to the porch this year is the DIY Painted Rug. I wanted to brighten the space without spending a lot of money. The project was very cost-effective, with an inexpensive piece of vinyl flooring.
The options are unlimited when you paint your rugs. You can see the details on How To Make A DIY Painted Rug.
Country Porch DIY Idea – Scrap Fabric Pillow Covers
Another eco-friendly country porch DIY idea is to make unique pillow covers using scrap fabrics.
The porch swing is filled with two different designs that color and creativity to the seating area.
To start creating your unique pillows, see DIY Spring Flower Pillow Cover, and for the lumbar pillow tutorial, see Cutest Recycling Project.
Budget-Friendly Porch Ideas
In addition to porch DIY ideas, look for great porch accessories at thrift stores and consignment shops. Decor that is exposed to the outdoor elements will not last as long as indoor decor. Therefore, searching for great deals will fill your porch with country charm without breaking the bank.
You should consider adding a pop of color to your porch by adding plants. One of my favorite porch plants is geraniums. They will bloom from Spring through Fall with these easy tips.
Country decor is all about mixing and matching different styles. Don’t be afraid to experiment with other materials, colors, and patterns. The goal is to create a space that you love spending time in.

So many wonderful ideas! I got real excited about the metal flowers tutorial until I saw the punch listed to make them is only good for paper and card stock. I knew 19.95 sounded too good to be true. Thanks anyway.

Jo, I've used these same flower punch for aluminum cans and have several designs. They work perfectly for recycling aluminum cans. After several projects they still punch paper, card stock and aluminum with ease.
