What Was Antique Amber Glass Bottles Used For?
Amber Glass Bottles were initially used to store liquids sensitive to light: the brown or amber color protected medicines and other liquids from spoiling.
Vintage colored glass bottles were popular from the 16th – to the 19th centuries.
How To Collect Vintage Amber Glass Bottle?
There are a variety of vintage amber glass bottles available to collect.
One way to identify older antique bottles is to check the seams. Bottles produced in the early 1900s through the Depression years will have a heavy seam.
In addition, if the bottle has a screw top instead of a stopper top, it’s likely a later production piece.
I like to collect all types of antique bottles, from more current Clorox bottles to smaller apothecary or chemist bottles with raised embossed labels.
Where to find Amber Bottles?
You may have read 10 Cheap Fall Decorating Ideas with Thrifted Old Bottles and Jars; if so, you know that many of my amber bottles are inherited.
However, I have added to my collection over the years. Many of my smaller bottles have been found at thrift stores and antique shops. In addition, I’ve dug a few out of old trash piles.
The two smaller medicine bottles were dug up on a recent hike through the woods.
Antique Fall Decorating With Amber Bottles
The brown and amber bottle colors lend themselves to rustic fall decorating.
Antique fall decorating is on-trend, especially for country, cottage, and farmhouse-style homes. However, any style home will benefit from the warm glow of colored glass bottles.
They are perfect for holding fall stems but look equally good empty when gathered in a vignette.
Mixed with a copper tray, a vintage toolbox, brass candlesticks, and concrete pears, the bottle collection makes a stunning kitchen island centerpiece.
Vintage Amber Bottle Tablescape Centerpiece
Vintage Bottles add a rustic touch to a tablescape centerpiece.
They are lovely, filled with dried flowers, okra pods, sweet gum balls, etc.

Cloche Vignette
Adding a glass cloche or bell jar to any vignette elevates its importance. A small collection of vintage medicine jars with dried persimmons and sweet gum balls is perfect for antique fall decorating.
Larger glass bottles add a rustic touch to a grouping of cloches inside a large wooden bowl for a coffee table centerpiece.

Small Vignettes with Colored Glass Bottles
The amber colored glass bottles immediately create a autumn feeling to any spot in the house.
Gather a few around a wooden vintage sifter, DIY paper flowers, and bead garland for a side table vignette.
Or add them to a shelf for a touch of autumn color. They blend well with the thrifted picture frames, brass candlesticks, and the DIY Wooden Spool Tassels.
A silver tray filled with amber bottles and autumn decor adds a rustic element to the vintage card catalog wine bar.
Adding DIY Vintage Bottle Labels enhances the antique fall decor and is so easy to make yourself.
Outdoor Fall Decorating
Another benefit of decorating for fall with amber glass bottles is they hold up to being outdoors and exposed to the elements.
I’ve used them to decorate the screened porch for fall dinner parties and sprinkle them around the porches each fall. I love how they look with the orange pumpkins and dried flowers.
A collection of rustic bottles adds so much character to the primitive cabinets on the front porch. The warm colors, terra cotta pots, copper tea kettles, and angel statuary create a cozy corner beside our bedroom door.
Over The Top of Cabinets
Another perfect choice for displaying vintage bottles is at the top of cabinets.
Whether you add them above kitchen cabinets or over a hutch, they will add rustic charm to the space.
Even the laundry room vintage cabinet has rustic charm for fall decorating with the addition of old glass bottles.
Decorating with Antiques for Fall gives your home a curated and rustic Autumn quality that never goes out of style.

@Rachel, I LOVE your use of the amber glass! Fall is my favorite!! And fall decorating is the best. Where did you find the berry/pod stems that are in a few of the pictures including the picture of the silver tray with bottles on the bar? In particular, the stem/branch that is laying next to the tray on the left.
